The legendary king of the surf guitar, Dick Dale, performs at The Belly Up Tavern on December 20. While he never scored a hit record, his influence on music, especially lead guitar playing, is immeasurable. Dale released his first album, Surfer’s Choice, in 1962, inspiring legions of musicians in his wake, from Eddie Van Halen to Stevie Ray Vaughn, but many music fans also don’t realize they are hearing Dale’s guitar work in such unlikely locations as the soundtrack to Disneyland attraction, Space Mountain.
