They have drinks at a hotel and the teacher passes out. When he awakens, the Frenchman has disappeared, but the nobleman’s chauffeur comes to pick him up and mistakes the teacher for his boss. The teacher plays along with this situation and arrives at a chateau to meet an ailing mother, the wife, and the mistress of the nobleman. What awaits him? Is there a sinister plot ahead? Alec Guinness plays the dual roles with Bette Davis as the countess.
