Most people see oil platforms as industrial blights in our ocean, and yet marine conservation scientists Amber and Emily are diving beneath the surface and revealing a remarkable story. Below these massive structures lies a thriving oasis full of life. As oil platforms approach the end of their economic life, policy makers and the public must decide whether converting a Rig to a Reef suits ecological and economic goals better than their complete removal. Immerse yourself with the team on an epic journey from Malaysia to California as they work to prove the value of “Rigs to Reefs.”

Emily, Amber and Kyle all currently reside in San Diego. Emily Hazelwood was the film’s expedition leader. She and fellow expedition team member Amber Jackson are co-founders of Blue Latitudes. Blue Latitudes is a certified women-owned marine environmental consulting firm. Emily received her M.A.S degree in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation from Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego.
