Photo:Emily Perez, busy Rolando resident, cites benefits of being active in the Rolando community.
Periodically, we like to feature a Rolando resident who stands out as an exceptional neighbor and a committed community activist. These are people who come to our Community Meetings, join in community social activities, volunteer on our sub-committees, they invest in getting to know their neighbors, and so much more!
This month we’re excited to feature Emily Pérez. She’s 35 years young, works as an architect specializing in designing schools and lives on Tarragona Drive with her husband Roberto, their 5-month-old daughter Catalina and their dog Archer (a German-shepherd/Corgi mix). Emily volunteers and contributes a lot of energy towards the Street Fair Committee, attends nearly all the RCC monthly meetings (even while having a little one), and regularly attends the Rolando Night Out events. We’re inspired by all Emily does for Rolando. Keep reading to learn a little more about Emily.
How long have you lived in Rolando?
We bought our home in May 2016, so a little over 2 years now.
What’s your favorite thing about Rolando?
I love that Rolando feels like a quiet little residential pocket, but we are still close enough to walk to some great cafes and restaurants.
What’s one thing you’d like your neighbors to know about you?
I grew up in Seattle and I’m still a Mariners and Seahawks fan. What’s your favorite RCC event? The Street Fair, followed closely behind by the yearly ice cream social, because who doesn’t love an excuse to eat ice cream for dinner? I’ve been volunteering on the street fair committee for 2 years now.
What does being an RCC member mean to you?
In a word: community. Being a part of RCC has provided me a chance to meet neighbors I would probably not otherwise have the opportunity to meet. It’s also great being able to hear about what’s going on in the neighborhood (the good and the not-so-good), and having a chance to express our opinions and concerns to local officials.
