Anvil Of Hope Foundation turns 5
by Vince Meehan
Peter and Vicky Zien not only run Alesmith Brewing Company – which is one of the best known and successful breweries in San Diego – but they also founded and operate Anvil Of Hope. Anvil Of Hope is a non-profit whose goal is to provide inspiration to youth through individual and group activities, such as sports, arts and crafts, and music lessons. The couple got the accreditation for their non-profit right before the COVID lockdowns, but their passion to help the community kept their motivation high and now they are celebrating their 5-year anniversary with a celebration at Alesmith.

“Anvil Of Hope is our organization primarily run by my wife Vikki, and we work to – the most general of our mission statement – is to break the cycle of poverty, Peter said. “And we’re doing that one child at a time working through schools in San Diego, primarily some of the less served communities.”
Anvil Of Hope keeps students motivated by organizing field trips, playing sports, providing mentoring, and even dance classes. Peter noted that the dance program has been very successful and the kids have really taken to it. “We’ve had some really good response, Vikki started a break dancing glass at Paradise Hills Elementary, and they were suffering from big attendance issues. They were ranked very low at 30% or 40% attendance with a lot of truancy. So we started this after-school break dancing class that you cant join if your attendance gets below 90%. And the school now is at 80% + attendance because of this program
The celebration will take place on Saturday April 26 at the big Alesmith brewery and tasting room at Miramar from 1pm to 3:30 pm. Peter says the event will feature some break dancing from professionals as well as some of the students from the program. This will also be a great opportunity for those who would like to get involved with Anvil Of Hope. Vicky says they are always looking for “Angels” to get involved with the non-profit in many different aspects. These include career guidance, mentorships, public speakers, as well as sponsors. Like most non-profits, Anvil Of Hope relies a lot on volunteers to help with their mission, and those interested in volunteering can contact Anvil Of Hope at Info@AnvilofHope.org
